Vertcoin is a decentralized open-source cryptocurrency, aka ASIC — resistant fork of Litecoin. To achieve consensus, the system uses the PoW (proof-of-work) algorithm.

The developers are positioning Vertcoin as a “people’s coin”, where, ideally, almost any user with a personal computer can easily join the Vertcoin network and mine tokens.

The main requirement is a large amount of memory (disk space).

The Vertcoin system has a memory-intensive Scrypt-Adaptive-Nfactor (Adaptive N-Factor, Scrypt-N) algorithm. With its help, the efficiency of using ASIC systems is significantly reduced, and the creators of the platform can assure that the cryptocurrency is protected from 51% attack — a well-known Bitcoin vulnerability.

The VTC platform token was issued almost without pre-mining — initially, only three blocks were mined to test the software’s functionality.
