    TPS , Transactions-per-second

TPS (Transactions-per-second) is the number of transactions the blockchain can process per second. The higher the TPS value, the faster payments will be received. To calculate TPS, you need to know the time interval between blocks in the network, the block size and the average transaction size.

However, as of today, there is still a long way to go before the TPS value is increased. For example, while PayPal can process 193 transactions per second and  VISA about 25,000, these numbers will often be much lower on blockchain platforms.

The problem is that a well-scaled system can easily adapt to increasing loads. And most blockchains are difficult to scale: increasing throughput with larger blocks undermines decentralization, the very goal of a distributed network.
