    SHA256 (Secure Hashing Algorithm) is an up-to-date hashing algorithm developed by the US National Security Agency. This calculation method protects a cryptographic dataset because without a special key (available only to the owner) it is impossible to gain access to the encrypted information.

    256 is the number of fragments that make up the code. In other words, SHA256 is a secure hashing algorithm that is used to convert data into 256-bit encrypted strings. The more hashes an algorithm can generate, the less risk that the same hash will be generated for two different values.

    SHA-256 is used in the proof-of-work algorithm. Cryptocurrencies using SHA-256: Bitcoin, Peercoin, Namecoin, Steemit, etc.
