Polygon (formerly Matic Network) is a subsidiary blockchain (sidechain) of Ethereum that is designed to accelerate smart contracts and DApps (decentralized applications). Proof-of-Stake or Delegated Proof-of-Stake consensus models are used for protection.

All transactions are verified by validators who receive the reward. At the same time, in comparison with Ethereum mining, less energy is consumed. The Ethereum blockchain in the Polygon ecosystem is the main link, and this is a ready-made solid base represented by a strong community of developers and users, the popular Solidity language, and a virtual machine (Ethereum Virtual Machine, EVM). All of this provides a benefit over blockchains such as Polkadot, Cosmos, etc.

Objective: to increase Ethereum scalability and reduce transaction costs. The native token is MATIC.
