NEAR (near.org) is an open-source, high-bandwidth smart contract platform for the development of DApps.
The NEAR protocol is based on the DPoS (Delegated Proof-of-Stake) consensus algorithm and uses sharding to optimize performance. Unlike Polkadot, all the shards here are like parts of a single blockchain. To connect with Ethereum, NEAR Protocol uses the Rainbow Bridge.
Present And Future
The NEAR governance structure is under development. Participants publish and discuss all their proposals and then vote, thus making decisions about one or another parameter.
Native cryptocurrency of the NEAR blockchain has the same name. It is used for staking by validator nodes and delegating participants. Commissions in the network are minimal.
The creators of the project believe that later the holders of the native token will control the network, and the protocol will become a DAO — a decentralized autonomous organization.
