Australia unveils new law to fight cybercrime

Australian lawmakers will increase criminal liability for the use of ransomware. The surge in cyberattacks on Australian businesses and government agencies in 2020 cost the country’s economy $1 billion.
The new law will allow authorized agencies to seize digital assets or freeze crypto transactions related to cybercrime, regardless of their country of origin. The legislation will be finalized and updated to speed up and make effective the return of cryptocurrencies received by criminals from victims.
